Ways of starting your day off right with a good morning routine will differ from person to person. Not everyone gets out of bed in the morning in a good mood. Some can bounce out of bed, anticipating the day and will talk your ear off if there’s anyone to listen. Others stagger out of bed after a while, and you better not speak to them, or they’ll bite your head off. I've just described my husband and I. I sing in the morning, and Chris gives me evil looks.

Starting your day right with an awesome morning routine

As we've seen, one of the secrets of success for those who are highly successful in life and business is a morning routine. It doesn’t need to be complex, and it certainly doesn’t have to be time-consuming to create or follow. In the beginning, it will require a commitment from you to planning it and then to practising it daily until it becomes a habit that happens without you having to work on it consciously.

Let's dig in a little deeper and see exactly how to start your morning off right. The morning routine of the most motivated and organised folks generally includes the following elements:

Early Start

Forget about long lie-ins and putting the alarm on snooze every 5 minutes. Set your alarm for an hour (or even two) earlier than usual and see your productivity soar. An early start may not come naturally at first bit providing you go to bed earlier and get enough sleep you’ll notice a positive difference quickly.

Positive Visualisation and Affirmations

Set the tone of your day by giving it a really positive boost. Visualize your success from the get-go. Use positive affirmations and don’t forget to display them where you can see them frequently as this will boost their efficacy. Doing this step within the first 20 minutes of waking gives you a greater chance of success as you’ll be able to reach your subconscious before your conscious mind wakes up and takes over.

Exercise

Undertaking some form of exercise will get your blood flowing, heart pumping oxygen around your body and generally waken up your entire system. You don’t need to go for a 5-mile run every day. Your exercise regime could consist of morning stretching, yoga or Tai Chi as these will help calm and ground you as well as provide time for inner contemplation.

Hydration

Make sure you keep your body hydrated. Many people start their day with a glass of water and lemon. Herbal tea or a green juice are also good choices for an early morning drink to get your day started the right way.

Planning

If you want to have a successful day, make sure that you know exactly what needs to be done. Have a to-do list ready and identify the order of priority. Make sure the list isn’t too long, 10 or fewer items is an ideal length.

Nutrition

A healthy breakfast is an excellent way to get your body fuelled up ready to tackle the day ahead. You’ll feel more alert and be able to concentrate on the tasks you need to accomplish.

Reading

Taking a few minutes to sit and read something inspiring or educational will help you to feel positive and motivated. You don’t have to spend a long time reading, even 10 minutes will be enough to get your mind working and your motivation kick-started. Suggestions for morning reading include self-help books or biographies and autobiographies of successful people who inspire you and can act as role models.

Money Tasks

Before you head out the door on your commute or settle down to your day at home, it’s important to do something that will either make you money or save you from spending money. Prep the day’s meals so that you don’t feel tempted to get a take-out when you are feeling tired at the end of the day. Make sure that the dishwasher is loaded and the kitchen counters clean and clear so that you don’t have to think about tidying. Pay your bills so that you don’t get overdue notices and charges.

If you want to have a successful day, then it’s essential to start your day positively. Having a morning routine will ensure that your days are organised for success and that you feel motivated from the start.

The night before

As we've seen so far, starting your day with an excellent morning routine will ensure that you'll feel calmer, happier and more productive. But remember that habits don't happen overnight. They take at least 21 days to become ingrained into your regular routine so the sooner you start, the quicker you'll become a well-organised morning person.

Below are five more habits you can develop for an even better morning routine. These are all things you can do the right before, in preparation for a fantastic day ahead. The chances are you'll get these done faster in the evening than you would in the morning. Which means you'll be able to wake up and relax into your morning routine.

Tidy up

We've all been there, feeling too tired to do our simple cleaning chores. Try and spend a little time every evening tidying and cleaning away the dirt, clutter and debris from the day. This will save you a lot of time in the long-term

Make it a fun routine by trying to involve the whole family. Set a timer and zip through it all. If you're on your own, it may take slightly longer. Either way, you'll wake up to a tidy home and cleaning won't need to be part of your morning routine.

Prepare Lunches

Food prep can take time and isn't fun when you're in a rush to get out the door in the morning. Spend some time preparing lunches for all the family the night before. doing this will definitely save you time and money.

Plan ahead so that you know you're having each day of the week. You'll be able to make sure you buy or make everything you need. No more last minute panics in the morning.

Get Clothes Ready

Trying to decide what to wear in the morning is a huge time waster. And, I imagine, it gets worse if you have kids. Try to get the whole family's clothes ready the night before. Get entire outfit is on a hanger - including underwear, shoes and accessories.

Don't let indecision ruin your morning routine.

Write To Do Lists

Write down all the jobs, appointments, tasks and calls you need to do the next day. If they involve taking clothes to the dry cleaners, bag them and put them by the door ready to go. If you need to post letters or parcels, then bag them and put them by the door. Your list will make sure you know what you need to do, and you'll be able to tick tasks off much faster.

Bag It

Spend time putting everything you need for the day ahead in your work bag. You can't use iPad or laptop overnight so putting it in your purse or case before you go to bed will make sure you don't forget it.
All work documents or school books should be put into bags so that they aren't forgotten or mislaid!

If your children have gym class, football or another school or after-school activity, then get the necessary kit ready in their bags before you head to bed. Put the bag by their school coat.

Starting your day with a positive morning routine and feeling organised has a significant impact on the way the rest of your day pans out. A chaotic start is hard to recover from. By developing the habits above, you can be sure that you and your household will always start your day the right way with an awesome morning routine.
