It can be difficult to work out how to gain self confidence and how to motivate yourself sometimes. In this post, I talk about the 7 elements of self confidence building and what it means to have confidence in yourself. This is useful for anyone looking for tips on how to boost self confidence, building self confidence, how to build confidence and how to become confident

I am a big believer that everyone deserves to be comfortable in the skin they are in. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve said things like: “there is the only one you, take the opportunity and move forward as you!” This is all well and good, but gaining confidence is not always easy. Not only that, but it is possible to take confidence too far or, even worse, lie to yourself about how you feel.

So, I’d like to take you on a whistle-stop tour through 7 of the most essential elements of self-confidence. It won’t take you long to realise that self-confidence is a bit of a balancing act.

Elements of self-confidence

1. Healthy self-confidence

Healthy self-confidence happens when you can be honest with yourself and love yourself. No matter what. You’ll feel encouraged to live your life to the fullest. You'l also be able to make bold but good choices, and to keep going if you make mistakes.

2. Low self-confidence

Unhealthy self-confidence goes two ways. On the one hand, an unhealthy self-confidence leaves you with zero confidence. As well as an often unrelenting fear of making mistakes and often leads to poor quality of life. This is typically called low self-confidence.

3. Over-Inflated self-confidence

On the other hand, over-inflated self-confidence is also unhealthy. This is a form of self-deception. It tricks you into thinking that you are better than everyone else and that you can do anything. Even to the point of ostracising your friends and family.

Outwardly, people with an over-inflated sense of confidence come off as cocky or mean. They tend to have trouble gaining and keeping close, loving relationships. This is because they come off as being less than genuine.

4. The dangers of unbalanced self-confidence

Either way, an unbalanced sense of self-confidence can lower your quality of life. People with low self-esteem often miss out on some of the best things that life has to offer. Either they are too afraid to make a mistake, or they feel that they are not worthy of happiness. It is a type of existence that only holds you back.

5. Lying to Yourself

When people seem to have an inflated self-confidence it can be a sign of the exact opposite. That’s right, it can be a sign of low self-confidence. People may be hiding their true selves and are actually riddled with self-doubt. The false mask of bravado is not true self-confidence, and it is really a form of self-deception.

6. Understanding the Meaning of Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is all about having belief in your own self-worth and having self-respect. You are not respecting yourself if you do not believe you are worthy of respect and happiness. Nor are you respecting yourself by hiding behind an inflated ego.

7. Being honest with yourself

To find your own self-worth and build real self-confidence, you must stop hiding behind fear or a false sense of confidence. Often, being honest with yourself is harder than being honest with another person.

Self-confidence is, indeed, a balancing act that everyone has to work on. To build healthy and balanced self-confidence, you must first be honest with yourself. Only then can you start to work on your view of the world as a whole. Take note of the elements of self-confidence to make real changes that could change your life for the better.
