3 Important Reasons To Follow Your Passion

last year

Life’s too short to do something that you don’t really care about. Now that I have written that sentence I’ve thought of about 400 things that I do that I don’t care for. You know, ironing, washing up, picking up my husband’s socks. Not to mention reading half of a junk email before realising what I’m doing and deleting it… you get the idea. When doing these things, in the short term, it might not look like I’m taking my own advice, follow your passion - or am I…?

People will tell you to follow your heart and discover your passion. But how and why? if you find your passion for life, it will inspire you to work hard and achieve greatness. As individual tasks, I don’t care for any of the things I mentioned above. But if I mould them into my life, I do care about them all because I care about my life. The more you care about the main things in your life, the more you’ll care about the small stuff like ironing. Why? Because you’ll care about yourself.

If you read my post from the other day, you’ll notice that I repeat a few of the things from this post. But these things are essential. They are also super inspiring if you’re sitting on the fence about taking the time to find your purpose. So, without further ado… (geez I’ve realised I sound like my Dad!)

3 Important Reasons To Follow Your Passion

You Will Get More Done

If love what you do, work doesn’t quite feel like work. Don’t get me wrong, this is not always the case. Sometimes things can be stressful and challenging, no matter how much you love it. But when you’re passionate about what you are doing, you’re far more motivated to get things done. There is much less sitting around checking Facebook every five minutes. Because of this passion, drive and motivation, you get a lot more done on any given day.

It doesn’t have to stop with work, either. I'll give you a few random examples that have popped into my head. If you’re passionate about gardening, a new flower bed or growing juicy tomatoes comes quick and easy. If you’re excited about redecorating your living room, painting the walls won’t seem like a nightmare. You’ll get it done super fast. Watching paint dry will actually be a genuine pleasure.

Follow your passion in life, and use it to get way more achieved every day, week, month, and year. It will amaze you how your productivity skyrockets when you enjoy what you’re doing.

Level Up the Quality of What You Do

It is a given that when there’s a real purpose behind what we do, we tend to deliver things to a much higher standard. In other words, when what we do matters to us, we do a better job of providing the results we set out to deliver.

This tends to be because we feel good about ourselves when we do what we love. We want our results to show our love and passion.

When you follow your passion, you can use this to motivate yourself to do your best every step of the way. Even if you are working on the most stressful part of the job or doing the jobs around the house that you dread (ironing!). You will be able to remind yourself that it all adds up to the bigger picture. You know you’ll feel good, and it’ll be totally worth it at the end of the day.

Have WAY more fun

Finally, if we are passionate about something, it is almost always a lot more fun and enjoyable. Much more so than things we are indifferent about, for sure.

Sometimes you might need to dig deep to follow your passion. Cleaning the loo or picking up your husband’s socks may not be top of your list of favourite things to do. But having a well maintained and beautiful house might be. Dig deep, my friends!

Find your purpose for anything you do, and you’ll find yourself going through your day greater ease and joy.
