This year I am going on a journey with fear and I'm hoping you'll joining me.
A while ago I had an idea, or rather an extension of an idea.
I had lost one of the jobs I had been doing for five years and loved. I already owned The Happy Journals website and half the concept. I say half because I had been toying with it for ages but not doing anything much.
I realised that I had lost my job for a reason and that I wanted to see what I could do with the Happy Journals. So, I gave myself 100 days to create something to be proud out.
Today - 7th January 2018 - is day 100!!
It hasn’t been easy. There are people who tell you to start a blog/business because you’ll make six figures a month in no time. But, it takes a lot of work, getting up at 5 am and realising you wished you studied graphic design at some point. Even then, you may not see the benefit for quite some time.
In all honesty, I’ve taken a risk with The Happy Journals. But the one thing that has kept me going is being contented with having fear by my side.
I know, I know, everyone else tells you to kick fear to one side. Don’t. We need to become friends with fear. Using fear to spur you on is a beneficial way to live. It often shows that you genuinely care about what it is you’re doing.
What do I mean when I say Journey with fear
I’m currently reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I’m about 100 pages in and it’s already one of my favourite books.
In her book, Elizabeth talks about fearlessness vs bravery. Fearlessness sounds appealing, right? But in reality, you don’t want to be fearless because you’d end up making silly decisions and causing chaos.
Bravery, on the other hand, is useful. Bravery is accepting that what you want to do scares the crap out of you, but you’re going to give it a go anyway.
I’m sure I’ll talk about this a lot more over the year. But I’d like to challenge you.
We’re now in a brand new year. 2017 (and every other year) is in the past. No amount of thinking can change the past - its been, gone, done.
What about 2018?
Well, that is yours to mould. It can turn into anything you like. You can either live in fear and carry on the way you always have. Or you can live with fear and do amazing things that blow your mind!
What is one thing you would absolutely love to do but are too scared even to get started?
How could living the next 100 days with fear change your life? Let me know in the comments below!
Going on a journey with fear takes confidence and grit, which many of us struggle with. If you do, I’d love for you to consider delving into my 30-Days to Confidence Guided Journal - I love it, and I think you will, too!
